This Privacy Policy describes how WASL ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, stores, and shares your personal information. By using our website, services, or becoming a member, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

WASL is a curated private membership platform for Muslims who want to connect with like-minded people through structured meetups, networking, and community experiences.

1. Who We Are

This policy applies to all products, services, and online properties operated under the WASL brand, including our website, our onboarding forms, and our community.

By engaging with our services, visiting our website, or joining our community, you agree to the data practices described in this Privacy Policy.

2. Personal Information We Collect

We collect different categories of personal data depending on how you interact with WASL. This may include:

  • Identification & Contact Details: Name, email, phone number, country, city, date of birth (to confirm you are 18+).
  • Demographics & Preferences: Gender, relationship status (e.g. married, single, in a relationship), meetup format preferences (e.g. coffee, dinners, coworking, sports and activities), and city preferences for events. Because WASL is a Muslim-focused community, by applying and participating you tell us you identify with, or wish to be part of, a Muslim community. We treat this as sensitive information and use it only to operate WASL.
  • Professional & Business Information: Role, professional status (e.g. employed, founder, self-employed, student), industry/sector, income or revenue band, company name, website, professional social accounts.
  • Account & Transaction Data: Login details (email and hashed password, or basic profile details from Google if you sign up with Google), membership status (applicant, approved, waitlisted, rejected, active, paused, cancelled), membership tier, subscription plan, renewal and cancellation status, payment status, limited card metadata from Stripe (e.g. last four digits, card brand).
  • Profile, Photos, Communications & Group Activity: Short bio, social profiles (e.g. Instagram, LinkedIn), referral codes used or shared, how you heard about WASL, responses to onboarding questions, support messages, feedback, and other content you submit. Photos and media you choose to share with us after meetups or in our community spaces. Where we provide WASL-hosted group chats or community spaces, we may collect messages and posts you share there.
  • Engagement & Community Data: Invitations, match decisions, event registrations and attendance, participation and inactivity patterns.
  • Technical Data: Device type, browser, IP address, approximate location from IP, session timestamps, pages viewed, referral URLs, interactions and cookies.
  • Other Voluntarily Provided Information: Any content you submit in forms, calls, emails, or other communications with us.

3. How We Collect Your Information

We collect personal data in several ways:

  • Directly from you: When you apply to join, complete onboarding, update your profile, join events, enter a referral code, share photos after meetups, post in groups, or contact us.
  • Automatically: Through cookies and similar technologies that collect technical and usage data when you visit our website.
  • From third parties: From payment processors (e.g. Stripe), login providers (e.g. Google), and analytics/hosting tools that support our services.
  • Via user interactions: Through your activity in the community, including group conversations, matches, event participation, and feedback.

  • Ensure legal compliance, detect fraud, and prevent misuse of our services

We only use your religious and lifestyle information (e.g. being part of a Muslim community, relationship status) in the context of operating and curating the WASL membership experience.

5. Sharing of Information

We may share personal data with professional service providers and technology partners who support our operational, product, marketing, and customer service needs, such as: hosting and infrastructure providers; payment processors (e.g. Stripe); email and communication tools; analytics and platform tools; advertising and remarketing platforms (e.g. Meta, Google); login providers (e.g. Google). These third parties are required to protect your data and use it only for the purposes we specify.

We do not sell your personal data.

We may also share your data: with other WASL members inside the private community, so your profile and relevant details are visible for networking and meetups; with trusted partners under confidentiality agreements where they help us deliver WASL; with authorities when required by law or to protect our rights, property, or safety; in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of our business.

6. Cookies & Tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies to collect technical and behavioural data. These help us: enable core site functionality such as logins and form submissions; understand how users navigate our site and engage with content; measure aggregate usage, session length, and traffic sources; improve performance and user experience; support interest-based advertising and remarketing on platforms like Meta and Google.

Types of cookies we may use:

  • Essential cookies: Required for site functionality
  • Analytical cookies: Help us measure site performance and usage
  • Marketing cookies: Used to deliver and measure ads, including interest-based ads

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Disabling some cookies may limit functionality.

7. Email & Community Communications

We may contact you with messages related to WASL via email, SMS, or other messaging channels. This may include: onboarding and account updates; match notifications and event invitations; reminders and changes related to events you joined; community news and WASL updates; promotional content and offers related to WASL.

You may opt out of marketing-style messages at any time by clicking "unsubscribe" in our emails or by contacting us. You may still receive essential service messages (such as security notifications or critical event updates) while you have an account.

8. Payment Information

We use third-party providers such as Stripe to process payments. We do not store your full credit card number or CVV. All transactions are encrypted and handled securely by our payment partners in accordance with their privacy policies and legal obligations. We receive limited payment information (such as payment status, amount, currency, last four digits, and card brand) so we can manage your subscription, handle refunds, and meet financial record-keeping requirements.

Subscriptions & Billing

WASL operates on a recurring subscription model (for example, monthly), as clearly shown on our pricing and checkout pages. When you subscribe, you agree that your chosen plan will renew automatically at the end of each billing period using your saved payment method. You can cancel your subscription at any time. When you cancel, future renewals and charges will stop. Your membership will remain active until the end of the current paid period and will then automatically end. The exact price, billing cycle, and any trial or promotional terms are always displayed at checkout.

9. User Profiles, Group Conversations & Submitted Content

If you submit information via onboarding, your profile, group chats, post-event photo sharing, or other forms: that content may be visible to our team for curation, support, moderation, and safety. Certain profile fields (such as your name, city, bio, professional details, social links, and selected meetup formats) may be visible to other members inside the WASL community, especially in your groups or events. Messages and posts you share in WASL-hosted groups and community spaces may be visible to other members in those spaces. Photos you send or share with us after meetups may be used by WASL to showcase the community and events (for example, on our website, social media channels, or newsletters). If you later ask us not to use a particular photo that clearly identifies you, we will do our best to remove it from future use where practical.

Our team may access group conversations, shared media, and community spaces where necessary to: enforce our community values; investigate reports or suspicious activity; keep the community safe; troubleshoot technical or service issues.

WASL is a private membership environment: only members can see other members. Please only share information and photos you are comfortable disclosing within this community.

10. Data Retention & Security

We retain data as long as needed to: provide WASL services to you; manage your account, membership, and any disputes or follow-up questions; satisfy legal, tax, and accounting requirements. We may keep anonymised or aggregated data (which does not identify you) for longer, for analytics, business planning, and reporting.

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including secure hosting, encryption in transit, password hashing, and restricted internal access. No system is 100% secure. If we discover a breach involving your data, we will notify you where required and take steps to mitigate the risk.
